課程概述 |
Utopian scholarship harbors a wide range of approaches and entails perennial debates. In this course we will examine diverse approaches to the study of utopia and scrutinize various definitions, either explicit or implicit, of utopia. Special attention will be paid to the evolution of utopia as a literary genre. There will be weekly assigned reading materials plus the following texts:
Thomas More, Utopia
H. G. Wells, The Time Machine
George Orwell, Nineteen Eighty-Four
Marge Piercy, Woman on the Edge of Time
Octavia Butler, Parable of the Sower
Margaret Atwood, Oryx and Crake

課程目標 |
This course aims to introduce current scholarship on utopia and some representative utopian novels. It tries to unravel the interdisciplinary nature of the genre and pinpoint its dialogue with various contemporary critical issues. |
